Double Check Valve
Double Check Valve is technically two single check valve cast in adjacent sequence. A single check valve stops the backflow of liquid or gas, but little quantities liquid or gas have passed back along the piping before it closes.
Generally under negative pressure the water that briefly bypasses the first check valve and causes it to close is stopped from going any further by the second check valve which closes at the same time.
In theory two single check valves placed side by side in series anywhere lengthwise in a piping system will act jointly as a double check valve, but the farther they are placed more likely it is that something will act to stop them to work.
